NEWS: AP into CTE

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and the College Board are working together to remove the distinction between “college-ready” and “career-ready” coursework. All students must be college AND career-ready and must develop the academic knowledge and technical skills required for the future workforce.

This spotlight series will outline the steps NCDPI is taking to ensure students have access to advanced coursework throughout their CTE programs of study. The first spotlight will focus on selecting which AP courses to embed into the state’s CTE programs of study.

Selecting AP Courses to Embed into CTE Programs of Study

North Carolina currently embeds AP Computer Science Principles (AP CSP) and AP Computer Science A into its Computer Science and Information Technology Education Cluster. In the 2022-23 school year, AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics were added to the Business, Finance, and Marketing Cluster; and AP Statistics will be added to the state’s new Data Science Cluster.
